Who is GT McLain?

My given name is Griffin McLain Thompson. I go by GT and Griff. At my core, I am a seeker of growth, knowledge, love, and resilience—a person driven by the desire to understand the human condition, push my physical and mental limits, and build something meaningful that extends beyond myself. My life has been shaped by a series of challenges, transitions, and pursuits, each contributing to the person I am today and the vision I have for the future.

My journey began in a structured, high-performance environment as a member of the U.S. Navy, where I developed leadership, discipline, and an understanding of human resilience under extreme circumstances. The experience gave me direct exposure to trauma, mental endurance, and the complexities of human behavior, sparking a deep interest in psychology and mental well-being. After my service, I transitioned into a new phase—one of education, personal exploration, and a pursuit of purpose beyond the military.

I am now a student of psychology, driven by the intersection of human behavior, resilience, and personal transformation. My academic journey is not just about acquiring knowledge—it’s about applying it to help others navigate adversity, heal, and thrive. My interest extends beyond traditional therapy; I am particularly fascinated by positive psychology, behavioral and organizational change, and holistic approaches to well-being.

But my pursuit of growth isn’t just intellectual—it’s physical as well. I am passionate about trail running and hiking, finding both to be powerful tools for self-discovery, discipline, and connection with nature. The long hours on the trail are not just about movement—they are about understanding myself, pushing limits, and finding clarity in motion in unison with the natural world.

Beyond personal growth, I am deeply committed to creating a space where others can heal, grow, and find purpose. This vision is taking shape as Guardian Ranch, a future retreat and regenerative farm where individuals—especially veterans and those overcoming trauma—can reconnect with nature, develop new skills, and rediscover their strength. I believe healing happens not just through therapy, but through environment, movement, and meaningful work.

At the heart of everything I do is a belief in intentionality, connection, and resilience. I strive to live fully, think deeply, and contribute meaningfully—whether through psychology, athletics, or the relationships I build. My path is not about following a predetermined script; it’s about constructing a life that aligns with my values and enables me to serve others in the most impactful way possible.

This website is a reflection of that journey—a space where I explore ideas, psychology, endurance, and the pursuit of a meaningful life. It’s where I document my evolution and, hopefully, create a place for others to reflect on their own. Because at the end of the day, life is not just about where we are going, but who we are becoming along the way.
